Owning Lygodactylus williamsi, also known as the electric blue gecko or Williams' dwarf gecko, is a rewarding experience for reptile enthusiasts. Endemic to Tanzania, these striking geckos are renowned for their vibrant blue coloration and small size, making them popular among collectors. Creating a suitable habitat for them is essential, with a well-ventilated terrarium featuring plenty of vertical space for climbing, as they are arboreal species. A substrate that retains moisture, such as coconut fiber or sphagnum moss, helps maintain humidity levels around 50-70%. Providing live plants not only adds aesthetic appeal but also helps maintain humidity and provides hiding spots. Temperature gradients ranging from 75°F to 85°F during the day, with a slight drop at night, mimic their natural habitat. UVB lighting is beneficial for their overall health and calcium metabolism. Feeding them a varied diet of appropriately sized insects, including crickets, fruit flies, and small roaches, supplemented with calcium and vitamins, ensures their nutritional needs are met. With proper care and attention to their environmental requirements, Lygodactylus williamsi can thrive and bring joy to their keepers with their captivating beauty and lively behavior.
